Before HNG found me, I had dropped out of school. Now I am back in class, I play rugby for my school, and I want to become an engineer. HNG gave me back my future.

In Eastern Uganda, school dropout rates remain alarmingly high — particularly for girls, children with disabilities, and those from the most marginalised households. Many families cannot afford school materials, and over-stretched school systems leave at-risk learners behind.
HNG delivers targeted tutoring, mentorship, life-skills workshops, and school materials provision. Our after-school programme creates a safe, structured space where children thrive and build confidence for lifelong learning.
Rugby and community sports are used as powerful tools for discipline, teamwork, physical wellness, and holistic child development. HNG uses the playing field as a classroom.
Sport is one of the most powerful vehicles for change — yet for many children in Mbale, access to quality coaching, equipment, and safe playing spaces remains out of reach. Without mentors, raw talent goes unrecognised and undeveloped.
HNG partners with Uganda Rugby Union and community coaches to deliver structured training, inter-school leagues, and talent exposure events. We coach both athletic excellence and life values: respect, perseverance, and cooperation.
Advocacy for child rights, prevention of abuse and violence, and rehabilitation and counselling support for affected children and their caregivers.
Thousands of children across Eastern Uganda face violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Juvenile justice systems are under-resourced and many at-risk youth lack access to counselling, legal aid, or meaningful rehabilitation pathways.
HNG works alongside local authorities, schools, and families to create safer environments for children. We run community awareness campaigns, provide psychosocial support, and advocate for systemic change at local and district levels.
Targeted outreach programmes, girls' camps, skills-building workshops, and livelihood training that promote gender equality and sustainable self-reliance.
Girls in Mbale face disproportionate barriers to education, sport, and economic participation. Early marriage, gender-based violence, and cultural norms limit opportunities for girls — while persons with disabilities remain largely excluded from mainstream development programmes.
HNG's Girls' Empowerment Programme delivers structured camps, mentorship from successful women leaders, financial literacy training, and livelihood skills. Our GESI policy ensures disability inclusion is mainstreamed across all activities.
Training, exposure to life-changing solutions, and collaborative community projects that address poverty, health, environment, and livelihood improvement.
Communities in Eastern Uganda face intersecting challenges: climate vulnerability, limited economic diversification, and limited access to market linkages for small-scale producers. Short-term interventions have failed to break the cycle of poverty.
HNG's sustainability programme integrates environmental awareness, climate-resilient agriculture, savings groups, and entrepreneurship training. We build community capacity for long-term self-reliance, not dependency.
Hope for the Next Generation is a registered not-for-profit, community-based organisation working at the intersection of grassroots sport, quality education, child protection, gender equality, and sustainable livelihoods in Mbale City, Eastern Uganda.

HNG is formally committed to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Our programmes directly advance four SDGs — providing the framework for accountability that institutional donors require.
HNG's commitment to the 2030 Agenda is embedded in our governance, planning, and reporting frameworks. Every programme is designed to deliver measurable contributions to the SDGs we have adopted.
Inclusive and equitable quality education
HNG delivers educational support, life-skills training, school materials provision, and structured mentorship to hundreds of vulnerable children annually. Our after-school programme creates safe spaces for learning and development, targeting children at highest risk of dropout — including girls, learners with disabilities, and those from the most marginalised households in Mbale City.
Achieve gender equality and empower women
HNG's Girls' Empowerment Programme, women's livelihood workshops, girls' camps, and GESI-mainstreamed governance structure directly advance gender equality and women's empowerment. HNG targets one-third women's representation in all leadership positions, and our GESI Policy is publicly available for full accountability.
Take urgent action to combat climate change
HNG's Community Sustainability Programme integrates environmental awareness, sustainable agriculture techniques, and climate-resilient livelihood training, equipping communities to understand and respond to climate change impacts. Working with smallholder farmers and youth groups across 6 communities, we build long-term environmental stewardship.
Strong institutions and access to justice
HNG's Child Protection and Juvenile Justice Programme advocates for children's rights, supports rehabilitation of at-risk youth, promotes access to justice, and works to build safe, accountable community institutions. We collaborate with local authorities, schools, and families to prevent violence and create protective environments.
